With two Resolutions, the UN General Assembly 2018 decided to convene a new edition of the UN Governmental Group of Experts (GGE) on Cybersecurity (A/RES/73/266) and for the first time an Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) on Cybersecurity (A/RES/73/27). A first meeting of the OEWG was held on 9 to 13 September 2019 and an OEWG intersessional Meeting was held on 2-4 December 2019. The second formal OEWG Meeting will be held in New York from 10 to 14 February 2020. The UN GGE has held informal consultations on 5 and 6 December 2019 and the formal UN GGE Meeting took place from 9 to 13 December 2019. The next UN GGE Meeting will be held in Geneva from 24 to 28 February 2020.

The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kenya to the UN and the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (ODA) are honored to offer the 2nd workshop for African Delegations to the UN in New York, to review and discuss the main topics that will be considered at the UN OEWG and UN GGE as follows:

  • Introduction to the processes on and progress in international and African cybersecurity: their context, main challenges and processes, participants, outcomes; presentation, Q&A, discussion
  • Existing and recommended measures for achieving international cybersecurity: voluntary norms, rules and principles and the application of the international law, confidence-building measures; presentation, Q&A, discussion

The workshop is again organized by the ICT4Peace Foundation Geneva, Switzerland. A first Workshop with African Diplomats in New York was held on 27 November 2019.
