The ICT4Peace Foundation was invited to participate at the African Union (AU) High‐Level Retreat on the promotion of peace, security and stability in Africa (Cairo 26 – 28 August 2010). Under the theme “Making peace happen in Africa in 2010 and beyond: Developing common strategies and enhancing coordination”, the retreat was gathering Senior Officials and Special Envoys/Representatives of the African Union, AU Peace Ambassadors, Senior UN officials, UN SRSGs, amongst other high level participants from important think tanks and NGOs, to exchange views and information between actors involved in peacekeeping in Africa. In the meeting participated inter alia, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Egypt, Dr. Jean Ping, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Amr Moussa, Secretary‐General of the League of Arab States, President Thabo Mbeki, former President of South Africa, Dr. Edem Kodjo, former Prime Minister of Togo, Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, former SG of OAU and Amb. Ramtane Lamamra, AU Commissioner, Peace and Security. The event was co-organized with the Cairo Center for Conflict Resolution and Peace-keeping (CCCPA).
At the margin of this event, Daniel Stauffacher, Chairman of ICT4Peace Foundation took this opportunity to discuss with UNDP Egypt and CCCPA the next phase of cooperation in developing traing courses in crisis information management in peace-keeping operations.
