ICT4Peace 2025 Annual Review and 2026 Outlook
As we approach 2026, ICT4Peace has significantly expanded its influence at the intersection of technology, peace, and human security. 2025 has been a year of strategic growth and innovation, marked by our leadership in AI governance, strengthened
international partnerships, and groundbreaking initiatives that position ICT4Peace at the forefront of digital diplomacy and cybersecurity.
AI Governance and Digital Innovation
2025 saw ICT4Peace emerge as a leading voice in ethical AI governance and sovereignty discussions. Our expertise was showcased through presentations at GenAI Zurich (April
1), GenAI Basel (September 22), and GenAI London (October 24), where we addressed critical questions about ethical AI development and deployment. The Foundation’s academic influence expanded through teaching the AI & Sovereignty course at IHEID (September 29), bridging policy and technical communities.
A landmark achievement was co-organizing the Geneva Hackathon, which was part of the Swiss (ai) Weeks program, in collaboration with SwissCom, ETHZ, EPFL, ImpactHub, and UNHCR (September 26-28). The three-day Hackathon specifically focused on developing
tools to empower International Organizations using the Swiss sovereign LLM “Apertus.”
This pioneering project demonstrates our commitment to developing sovereign AI solutions that align with humanitarian values and international law. The approval of our Digital Toolkit Platform project, with secured FDFA funding, marks a significant step toward transforming policy frameworks into accessible, AI-powered resources, and will be an important pillar of the work for 2026.
Strengthening International Cyber Frameworks
Our multilateral engagement reached new heights in 2025. Joining the Swiss Delegation at GITEX in Marrakech (April 14-16) reinforced our role in global technology governance discussions. Active participation in the OAS Cyber Bootcamp (July 14-16) and the launch of the UK-financed OAS Policy Paper on Cyber Law, Norms, and IHL Application to Cyberspace demonstrated our continued leadership in cyber capacity building across the Americas.
The development and delivery of the Cyber Accountability course with the Stimson Center in Bangkok (April 21-25) expanded our reach into Asia-Pacific, while our active involvement in the Geneva Cyber Week 2026 convening committee (September 29)
positions us at the center of international cyber governance dialogues.
Youth Empowerment and Digital Resilience
2025 marked a pivotal year for our youth-focused initiatives. The development of the ‘Digital Ethical Edge: Developing Resilience Against Disinformation for Young Peacebuilders’ course specifically for West African youth, which will be delivered in early
2026, demonstrates our commitment to empowering the next generation with critical digital literacy skills.
Our local impact continued through presentations at the University of Zurich (April 9) and active participation at GC3B 2025 (May 13-16), strengthening ties with academic institutions and the broader Geneva ecosystem.
Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer
The successful delivery of the IG-CSC cyber-resilience course (May 12) fulfilled our commitment to strengthening International Geneva’s cybersecurity capabilities. This initiative established a model for practical, hands-on training that bridges policy and technical communities.
Our long-standing partnership with OAS continued, with the delivery of a workshop to assist Mexico with the development of their National Position on Application of International Law to Cyberspace. This three-day course covered the Foundations of International Law in Cyberspace, State Responsibility and Response Options, and the
Application of IHL to Cyberspace. Throughout 2025, we maintained our commitment to delivering world-class expertise through partnerships with premier organizations.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we enter 2026, ICT4Peace is well-positioned to scale our impact through innovative approaches to capacity building and technology deployment. We will continue expanding our capacity-building efforts across multiple regions and sectors. A major focus will be
transforming the Toolkit for Responsible Use of Technology by Security Companies into an online, AI-driven platform, making this critical resource more accessible and actionable for practitioners worldwide. Additionally, we will further develop technical
solutions to empower organizations in the International Geneva community, including developing and launching the International Geneva Matchmaking Hub.
The foundations laid in 2025 – from sovereign AI initiatives to youth empowerment programs – provide a robust platform for continued growth and impact. As digital transformation accelerates globally.
ICT4Peace remains committed to ensuring that technological progress serves peace, security, and human dignity.
