Estonia is hosting the first official UN Security Council open debate on maintaining international peace and security in cyberspace.

“The UN Security Council high-level virtual debate at 8am EDT/14.00 CEST on Tuesday 29 June offers an opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of international law, norms of responsible state behaviour and confidence-building measures as well as elevate existing regional efforts to promote peace and stability in cyberspace.

The event comes hot on the heels of the successful consensus outcomes of the UN Group of Governmental Experts and Open-ended Working Group earlier this spring. It will give UN Member States an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to international law, including international humanitarian law, and to the agreed framework of responsible state behaviour in cyberspace consisting of international law, norms, confidence-building measures and capacity building. It will be chaired by Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas.”

ICT4Peace encourages the international community to watch the meeting live (or afterwards) via UN Web TV: http://webtv.un.org/
