ICT4Peace has been invited by the Governments of the UK, Japan and Brunei to support the holding of a workshop on Cybersecurity Policy, Programmes and Diplomacy with ASEAN countries in Brunei Darussalam on 22 February 2018.
The Brunei workshop is part of the UK-Japan cooperation on cyber security. This workshop focussed on the following strategic concepts:
- Promoting an accessible, open, interoperable, reliable and secure cyberspace;
- Sharing understanding of the international debate, including the applicability of international law, norms, and governance on cyberspace.
The participants included ASEAN officials, decision-makers (Director-level) involved in cyber issues from Cybersecurity Agencies, Telecommunication Ministries and Foreign Ministries.
The Meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Keir Storrar of the UK Embassy in Tokyo and Mr. Masaki Yasumatsu, Director of Cyber Policy Division, Foreign Policy Bureau, MOFA Japan.
The speakers included experts and officials from Japan and the UK. From ICT4Peace Dr. Eneken Tikk and Dr. Mika Kerttunen, Senior Advisors ICT4Peace participated as lecturers. Daniel Stauffacher from ICT4Peace moderated all the sessions.
ICT4Peace has been conducting similar workshops since 2014 at the request of several ASEAN countries, including Singapore, Thailand and the group of CLMV countries.
