Dr. Markus Christen, Head of the Digital Society Initiative of the University of Zurich, convened on 24 October 2019 the workshop on “Outlining Future Challenges of Cybersecurity – the CANVAS Results”.

 The European CANVAS Project on ethical and legal challenges of cybersecurity came to an end in October 2019. In this final workshop at the University of Zurich, an overview of the main results of CANVAS was  provided as well as future research on cybersecurity in Zurich. Besides Markus Christen (University of Zurich), Burkhard Stiller (University of Zurich)  Adrian Perrig (ETH Zurich), Reto Inversini (MELANI), Florian Schütz, (Federal Cyber Security Delegate) and Eva May, (Office of Economy and Labour of the Canton of Zurich) were speakers at the workshop.

The Mission of the CANVAS Consortium – Constructing an Alliance for Value-driven Cybersecurity – is  to unify technology developers with legal and ethical scholar and social scientists to approach the challenge how cybersecurity can be aligned with European values and fundamental rights.

The University of Zurich (UZH) is Switzerland’s largest university and the coordinating institution of CANVAS. As a member of the “League of European Research Universities” (LERU), the University of Zurich belongs to Europe’s most prestigious research institutions. Within UZH, CANVAS is integrated in the “Digital Society Initiative” of the University (DSI@UZH) that started in September 2016. DSI@UZH is a university-wide platform to promote critical, interdisciplinary reflection and innovation concerning all aspects of digitalization of society and the sciences.
