The Zurich Hub for Ethics and Technology (ZHET) and the ICT4Peace Foundation are happy to be the partner of the new program section at the Zurich Film Festival called “Hashtag #big data”. The program of this section can be found here.

In particular ZHET and ICT4Peace are presenting the Film by the Chinese Director and Concept Artist Xu Bing, called Dragonfly Eyes/Qing Ting Zhi Yan:

“These days we are constantly filmed by surveillance cameras. This rings particularly true in China, where our protagonist Qing Ting ends her training to become a Buddhist nun so she can work on a farm and get closer to labourer Ke Fan. Later she completely reinvents herself as an online celebrity. Director and Concept Artist Xu Bing’s crazy love stories are exclusively told using real security camera footage taken from all over China. Reflecting the ubiquity of surveillance cameras and the loss of privacy, Bing engineered his innovative experimental melodrama DRAGONFLY EYES using more than 10,000 hours of CCTV footage and a continuous, fictionalised voice-over” (Quote from the ZFF Program). A description of this film and the time of the screenings can be found here.

In addition and as part of “ZFF Talks” ZHET and ICT4Peace are very pleased to present a conversation with Prof. Ron Deibert, Founder and Director of TheCitizenLab in Toronto on the topic: “New Media, AI and how it affects our lives”. The conversation will be held on 6 October 2018, 11 am at the main ZFF Festivalzentrum (Kubus). A description of the event can be found here.
