CrisisMappers has posted in two parts the speech delivered by Dr. Choi Soon-hong, the UN Secretariat’s Chief Information Technology Office (CITO) at the CrisisMapping conference held in Boston earlier this month. In his speech, Dr. Choi mentions the Foundation’s involvement since 2007 in efforts to improve the UN’s crisis information management systems and processes.
Further, the CITO’s presence at the CrisisMapping meeting resulted in the greater awareness of how crowdsourced information can and should feed into the UN system and a concept note by the ICT4Peace Foundation titled Cross-fertilisation of UN Common Operational Datasets and Crisismapping. This concept note came out of the UN’s Crisis Information Management Advisory Group (CiMAG) meeting held right after the CrisisMappers conference in Boston.
