Nigel Snoad currently advises UN OCHA on Crisis Information Management. Nigel is faculty at Parsons the New School for Design’s Humanitarian Design Lab, is an advisor to the ICT4Peace foundation and the Institute for State Effectiveness, and part of the advisory board for MIT’s Geospatial Data Center and Kopernik, a technology and development NGO startup.
Previously Nigel led research inside Microsoft on Humanitarian Systems, working in Afghanistan and elsewhere on new crisis collaboration concepts. Nigel also developed projects on citizen and community resilience and disaster response as a part of Microsoft’s Public Safety Initiative and Disaster Response team.
Before joining Microsoft Nigel was with the United Nations, most recently as a global Pandemic contingency planner for the UN System and before that with the UN Joint Logistics Center where he was deployed to Iraq, the 2004 Tsunami in Indonesia, the Sudan and elsewhere. At UNJLC Nigel managed the mapping and information management teams and led logistics coordination in the field for major emergencies.
Nigel has a PhD in Complex Adaptive Systems, has worked as a researcher and lobbyist, founded tech startups, and jumped off way too many cliffs over the years.
