ICT4Peace congratulates Ambassador Paul Meyer for receiving The CNWC Distinguished Achievement Award, which will be presented to him by the Canadians for a Nuclear Weapons Convention on 28 November 2022 in Ottawa.
Paul Meyer, a former Canadian Ambassador for Disarmament, is Adjunct Professor of International Studies, Simon Fraser University and also Chairman of the ICT4Peace International Advisory Group and ICT4Peace Senior Advisor.
On that occasion Paul Meyer will give a guest lecture entitled:
“Nuclear Threats and Canada’s Disarmament Diplomacy”
“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has ushered in a period of exceptional geo-political tensions and given rise to reckless threats of nuclear weapon use. Is the 77-year nuclear “taboo” likely to be broken and what are the implications for the global nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament regime of these developments? What role can Canada play in de-escalating nuclear brinkmanship and reviving arms control and disarmament diplomacy? Paul Meyer, this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award from Canadians for a Nuclear Weapons Convention (CNWC), will speak to these themes and engage in discussion of them.”
A hybrid event will be held in-person and will also be streamed online via Zoom.
Presented by Canadians for a Nuclear Weapons Convention and the Centre for International Policy Studies at the University of Ottawa
