Dr. Regina Surber studied Philosophy, Political Science and Public Law at the University of Zurich and the University of Geneva in Switzerland. She worked for Human Rights Watch in Switzerland, as well as NGOs abroad (Madagascar and Cameroon), and held several teaching assistantships in political philosophy and international relations during her studies. In 2016, together with Dr. Daniel Stauffacher, she initiated a new ICT4Peace project area dealing with Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS) and co-founded the Zurich Hub for Ethics and Technology (ZHET), a space for knowledge-generating discussions on the dual-use aspect of technology. She is a PhD candidate at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Zurich and works as a scientific advisor for both ICT4Peace and the ZHET with the current focus on the dual-use and human rights of AI-enabled technology.
