The ICT4Peace Foundation welcomes the timely, important & insightful new report by ICRC on misinformation, disinformation & hate speech in contexts of armed conflict. This new report outlines significant & growing challenges for humanitarian actors in light of epistemic decay, along with the erosion of trust in democratic institutions.

The ICRC report captures key points made by ICT4Peace Special Advisor Sanjana Hattotuwa and others at the DigitHarium event in March 2021, looking at information disorders, misinformation, disinformation & the instrumentalisation of social media to amplify violence. See our post with more details of this event here.

For well over a decade, the ICT4Peace Foundation has provided strategic, high-level input into the work of ICRC looking at issues related to cyber-security, misinformation, disinformation and media literacy. Our work also supports meaningful action around prescient warnings by the ICRC President, Peter Maurer.

The ICRC’s Mark Silverman has a good thread on the release of the report.
