ICT4Peace is proud to be a founding Advisory Board Member of Digital Peace Campaign initiated by Microsoft and announced at the Global Citizen Festival, Central Park, New York.
Early September 2018 ICT4Peace was invited by Microsoft to help design a global campaign to oppose cyber warfare and promote cyberpeace. An open and free cyberspace, which has been so beneficial for human, social and economic development of mankind, is being severely challenged by an increasing militarisation of the cyberspace for strategic purposes by States and non-state actors on their behalf.
A global mass movement is urgently needed to call on Governments of all countries to work together and to stop militarisation of the cyberspace and build global norms of responsible state behaviour and confidence building measures. ICT4Peace is inviting the citizens of the world to sign the Digital Peace Now Petition. We are excited to confirm that in a short time we have already exceeded 50,000 signatories of the petition.
“We are Digital Citizens—members of a thriving online global society. We trust technology to help us do our jobs, create communities and connect us. As Digital Citizens, we also share responsibility to protect our interconnected space.
We are more at risk than ever before from cyberwarfare. Governments are using technology as a weapon, which can devastate people, organizations, and entire countries. These attacks may start in the digital space but can quickly spread to the physical world. We must come together as Digital Citizens and call upon our world leaders to create rules of the road that protect our digital society.
We must demand Digital Peace Now.”
